What happened
On 19 August 2026, Ukraine’s General Staff said subsequent analysis confirmed that its 15 August strikes hit a production workshop assembling engines for Soyuz-family launch vehicles at the Progress Rocket Space Centre in Samara. It also reported a fire of approximately 5,000 square metres and damage at the nearby Aviakor aircraft plant.
